In-service Training on Animal Health Management for east central Region

The participants included geog field staffs, laboratory technicians, farm staffs and Veterinary Officer of the East Central Region.

14 June, 2016: The Regional Livestock Development Centre, Zhemgang organised a five day refresher training on Animal Health management and Welfare services from 5 to 10 June at RNR-RDC, Bumthang with the theme ‘‘Approach to Delivery of Excellent Veterinary Services.’’

The main objectives of the hands on training were to impart practical knowledge and skills on clinical examinations of animal, enabling animal health workers to arrive at an accurate diagnosis and proper treatment, to update animal health workers on emerging and Zoonotic diseases of public health importance, its prevention, early detection and control measures, and to impart practical knowledge and skills on best surgical practices and on the basics of sampling enabling animal health workers in carrying out emergency surgical procedures in the field and to ensure appropriate sampling in the field.

The training was chaired and technically guided by a representative from the Department of Livestock, Thimphu. Participants were guided through taking of clinical parameters and their significance. They were also guided through field demonstration on rumenotomy, spaying in dogs and standard sampling procedures in collecting laboratory samples.

The training successfully concluded with evaluation of the modules with scores above 70% by the participants, which suggested a very good achievement both for the participants and for the resource persons.
