ICIMOD is pleased to announce a call for its ICT for Mountain Development Award for the fifth consecutive year. The award recognizes innovations, uses, and applications in Information and Communications Technology for Development (ICTD) that help promote mountain development and environmental conservation. Details, including the winners from previous years and their ICTD innovations are available on our website.
ICT for Development is increasingly being used across the world, including in some parts of the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) region which spans eight countries – Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Pakistan. However, we do not yet have a comprehensive picture of its use, application, and proliferation in the mountain environment and development context. We hope that through this annual ICT for Mountain Development Award, we can learn more about its usage and application – where, how, and what is being done in the region to benefit mountain communities.
All forms of ICT (mobile, radio, Internet, web, digital content, applications, blogs, robotics, multimedia, mobile apps, etc.) relevant to mountain development and environmental conservation are eligible for submission. The basic criteria are:
- Must have been applied in the HKH region
- Must have clear focus on mountain development or mountain environment
- Must have made an impact on the ground
The award(s) will be announced on the occasion of International Mountain Day (IMD), 11 December 2018. Winners will receive prizes along with certificates of recognition.
We look forward to your participation and to receiving your submissions. Please note that our deadline is Friday, 30 November 2018.
