17 February 2017, Trashiyangtse: Hon’ble Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji, Minister for Agriculture and Forests, handed over a large power tiller each to Yangtse, Toedtso and Ramjar gewogs, and 5 mini power tillers to the gewogs of Bumdeling, Tongshang, Yalang, Jamkhar and Khamdang at Wongringmu.
Power tiller familiarisation demonstration was also done at the site.
In the morning he also visited the Trashiyangtse Farm Shop, National Seed Centre and the new Doksum town site. He met and interacted with the staff working in these institutions. He also identified the site for cold storage and processing plant at the new Doksum town and visited the Bhephushood vegetable cultivation site.
Later in the evening (right), the Hon’ble Minister handed over certificates and other associated documents to the Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer of 4 Community Forest (CF) groups. The four CF groups are Barshong CF covering 122 ha with 56 households, Chercherba CF group covering 129 ha with 56 households, Norbuling CF group covering 250 ha with 89 households and Roinagbumpa CF group covering 86 ha with 30 households. All these groups are in Ramjar Gewog of Tashiyangtse.
In the evening, he met with Principals of boarding and centrals schools where he advocated on food and nutrition security, waste management and social issues in schools. He delivered on the nutritional benefits of eggs and encouraged teachers to institute a system of 3 eggs per child per week. He stressed on the importance of waste management and encouraged staff to lead by example and support government in keeping Bhutan clean. He encouraged teachers to support most vulnerable students like orphans, girls and needy students.
