September 18, Lampelri: A team led by the Hon’ble Lyonpo, Yeshey Dorji visited the domestication trial sites for of Paris Polyphylla (Daw thog sumpa) and Panax pseudoginseng (Dingiraja) at the Royal Botanical Park (RBP).
Both Paris Polyphylla and Panax pseudoginseng are important medicinal plants that are illegally exploited in Bhutan. They are haphazardly and prematurely collected throughout the country and exported illegally. Due to this, there are high chances that these species may be wiped out if remedial measures such as domestication trials are not put in place. As per the directives from the Ministry, RDC Yusipang and Green Bhutan Corporation Ltd. will soon start research on the domestication of these two species.
In addition to the RBP visit, Lyonpo visited the ongoing Piggery and Dairy activities at Yusipang, agro-project site above Samarzingkha, Tango Shedra University Landscaping Project at Dodena and the new Paddy Cultivation site at Dechenphu.
