8 December, Thimphu: Mr. Johann Hesse, EU Head of Cooperation, Delhi called on the Hon’ble Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (MoAF) for a wrap-up meeting.
Mr. Johann was accompanied by Ms Karine Olislagers, EU Cooperation Manager. Also present were Dasho Tenzin Dhendup, the Secretary for MoAF along with the planning officials.
During discussion, Mr. Johann was informed how the Ministry is implementing the irrigation, farm roads, research centres etc. The Ministry’s plan of strengthening the regularity authority for certification, protection of watersheds, import substitution was also shared among others.
The meeting also highlighted the grant release of Euro 16.5 M for the multi annual indicative program, an upcoming EU sector support project. Ms Karine shared that the grant will be released once the final evaluation of the current programs is completed.
Among others, EU support can be also expected in terms of helicopter, charging stations and electric appliances. The meeting further shared the urgent need for this assistance which will be helpful during natural disasters, reducing usage of fuel wood and impact of climate change etc.
The delegation was in the country for EU project steering committee meeting and to discuss on the EU Technical Cooperation Project (TCP). TCP with Euro 4.6 M will focus on capacity development, agriculture marketing and commercialisation.
