21 May, Thimphu: His Excellency Hon’ble MoAF Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji, accompanied by the Officiating Secretary, Tenzin Dhendup who is also the Director General for the Agriculture Department and other officials paid a visit to the Food Corporation of Bhutan (FCB) in Changzamtog to examine the paddies collected from the Chuzergang village under Gelephu Dzongkhag for its better marketing.

FCB has collected around 993 bags of rice from Chuzergang village alone comprising of three different varieties; Champa, Ranjit and Khamja which were available in three different quantities of five, ten and twenty kilograms with a set MRP of;

  • 1 kg Champa– Nu. 60/-
  • 1kg Khamja – Nu.50/-
  • 1 kg Ranjit– Nu. 40/-

Since such a collaboration is the first of its kind, the Department of Agriculture took the initiative for the packaging of the paddies and with four rice mills established in Samdrup Jongkhar, Punakha-Wangdue, Dagana and Sarpang. FCB will now purchase the yields from the villagers and do the necessary marketing. So with such marketing of paddies running successfully, the Ministry is confident to accomplish the self sufficiency in rice production in near future.
