June 19, Thimphu: The Hon’ble High Commissioner for Canada to India, Nadir Patel and his delegation paid a courtesy call to the Honb’le Agriculture Lyonpo, Yeshey Dorji. The High Commissioner who is in the country for the first time also serves as Canada’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary for Nepal and Bhutan.
At the meeting, Lyonpo talked about the forest, agriculture and livestock as the three important sectors under the Ministry among others highlighting more on the forest and park services activities. He also shared the team on the on-going mass tree plantation around Thimphu.
The Ambassador shared that both Bhutan and Canada have a genuine desire to further strengthen the relationship besides having many things in common in areas like forests, agriculture and conservation.
Their Excellencies discussed on the possible areas of collaboration in terms of forests, ecotourism and park services. The Ambassador also assured to follow up on few areas for collaboration in addition to education.
Bhutan established a formal diplomatic relations with Canada in June 2003. Both countries have a long standing relationship built on strong people-to-people links and a history of close collaboration in the education sector following the successful visit of Father Mackey in 1963.
The delegation also met with the Hon’ble Prime Minister among others. They are in the country from 17 till 20 June.
