December 12, Thimphu: Her Excellency, Ms. Maya Kadosh, Charge d’affaires ad interim, Embassy of Israel in India called on the Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo, Yeshey Penjor.
Welcoming Her Excellency, Lyonpo expressed his acknowledgment to Israel for providing training opportunities to Bhutanese youths in the agriculture field. He added that Israel’s research and scientific based agricultural technologies will be beneficial for Bhutan. The Ministry availed the first batch of 11 months internship program in 2012. Till date, 154 youths have successfully completed while 38 are undertaking the training.
Sharing on the training impact back home, Lyonpo shared that youth have started forming cooperatives and other agriculture activities; this encourages others as well to take up agriculture.
Their Excellencies also discussed water and forest related areas. Lyonpo shared that Bhutan has water challenges in the agriculture field. Her Excellency on this shared that Israel has some best water and irrigation technologies which can be shared and helpful for Bhutan. She also appreciated Bhutan’s forest conservation efforts and assured to provide continued support to the Ministry.
Her Excellency is accompanied by Noa Hakim, First Secretary-Political Affairs (External) in her visit to Bhutan from December 10-13.
Bhutan does not have a formal diplomatic relation with Israel. Yet the two governments have been maintaining cordial relations through constant and consistent contacts between the Ambassadors of the two countries based in New Delhi.
