Under the theme “In Pursuit of Promoting One Health: Healthy Ecosystem, Healthy Animal and Healthy People” management of Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary in collaboration with Trashigang Dzongkhag Hospital and Trashigang Dzongkhag Livestock office organized second nomadic health camp for the people of Merak and Sakteng. During the camp, livestock officials sensitized public on zoonotic diseases and their risk of transmission from animal to people and domestic to wild animals. Representative of forest official talked about the importance of inter connectedness of people, animal and ecosystem. Further, medical team led by gynecologist made people aware of sexually transmitted disease, maternal and children health, cervical cancer and impact of alcohol consumption.
In a camp many women availed PAP smear facilities, family planning especially CuT insertion, treatment and follow up of other gynecological and obstetric cases which is otherwise not available at the BHU due to absence of female HA.
Numerous people were also treated and screened for non communicable diseases (NCD). Blood tests were done to screen for STD diseases.
Camp was organized at Merak on 12 to 14 May and 20 to 22 May for the people of Sakteng with the financial support from Bhutan Foundation.
