29 – 31 May, Gasa: The Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji handed over four power tillers to the gewog RNR extension agents in the presence of Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Khatoe-Lunana constituency, Dasho Dzongda, and gups of their respective gewogs on 30 May morning. Hon’ble Minister said that the main objectives of distributing power tillers are to ease the hardships faced by the farmers, enhance agricultural production and address the issue of farm labour shortage. Further, Hon’ble urged the farmers to make most out of the power tillers and strive towards enhancing production.
The chairman of Dzongkhag Tshogdu (DT) of Gasa dzongkhag thanked the government on behalf of the people of the dzongkhag. He said that the power tillers will not only help the farmers in tilling their land but also during emergencies.
As part of the visit, His Excellency also visited construction site of Laya gewog center road. According to site engineer Karma, a total of 13km road starting from dzongkhag head quarter towards laya gewog center has been completed as of now. The second phase of construction of 10 km road is expected to be completed by July 2016. The total distance from dzongkhag head quarter to laya gewog center is 48 kms.
The hon’ble minister also inaugurated 1.5 km Goling – Zana farm road and 3 kms electric fencing at Thanka-Zana. Hon’ble Minister then visited Khatoe/Khamey Gewog Center, BAFRA office, DVH, Khatoe/Khamey RNR Center and Jigme Dorji National Park and met all the local leaders, park officials and extension staffs. He also identified Khatoe RNR Center and old Damji School as Gewog’s Farmers’ Shop respectively. Hon’ble Minister instructed Dzongkhag Administration and extension officials to explore the possibilities of installation of MPU at Khamey and Poultry Farm at Damji School.
En route to Thimphu on 31 May, Hon’ble minister and entourage also visited cold water fishery site at Targey Thang and Chimipang royal project site.
The hon’ble minister and entourage visited Gasa dzongkhag from 29 May to 31 May. This is first visit to Gasa dzongkhag by hon’ble minister after assuming the post of Minister of Agriculture and Forests. The entourage includes officials from different agencies under the ministry.
