June 10, Bumthang: The dairy rearing farmers from Shengkhar Chewog under Ura Geog in Bumthang Dzongkhag attended training on improved fodder production organized by the National Center for Animal Nutrition (NCAN), Bumthang.
The training provided dairy farmers a basic skill on improved fodder production practice and created awareness on addressing fodder shortages during winter through application of appropriate fodder conservation technologies. They were also introduced to operation of fodder chaff cutter machine, making willow silage in plastic bag and feeding Urea Mineral Mixture Block (UMMB) to dairy cow as a supplementary diet during lean season.
At the end of training, temperate fodder seeds (grass mixture) were distributed to the participants at free of cost to encourage them to develop improved temperate pasture towards supporting sustainable dairy farming.
The training was conducted with the fund support from Bhutan Trust for Environment Conservation under the project title “Reviving Degraded Rangelands in Northern Frontiers through Soil Land Management Technologies Involving Herding Communities”.
