April 14-16, Lampelri: The Fifth annual Rhododendron Festival was conducted from 14-16 April at Royal Botanical Park, Lampelri. Hon’ble Lyonpo Tandin Wangchuk, Ministry of Health graced the opening of the Fifth Annual Rhododendron Festival.
The festival is conducted by Lampelri Rhododendron Tshongpa, a community based organisation, comprising members from four geogs of Chang, Dagala, Kawang and Toep and Dechentsemo Central School, Hongtsho primary School and Department of Forests and Park Services.
The event aims to preserve the unique culture and tradition of the country for the future generations. It also provided a unique platform whereby people gathered together for the cause of environment. During the event the communities displayed and shared their knowledge about forest and the surrounding environment.
The three days festival included the display of the local cuisines and beverages, the schools performed traditional dances and environmental skits including Tiger and Bear dance.
Hon’ble Lyonpo expressed his gratitude to the school children of Hongtsho and Dechentshemo, communities of Chang, Kawang, Dagala and Toeb geog, tshogpa and Department of Forests and Park Services for organising such an exemplary event where by the government and people are working together to preserve the environment.
Lyonpo also urged the participants present during the event to join hands with the Park management and local communities to conserve the pristine environment and culture.
