November 29, Sarpang: As per the Annual Performance Agreement 2016, the Agriculture Sector in collaboration with the Horticulture Division is carrying out the winter vegetable production covering 12 geogs in Sarpang. The sector had distributed vegetable seeds to cover more than 260 acres with an expectation to produce about 1500MT of winter vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, chili, onion, beans, radish, tomato etc.
As a follow up programme, the sector organised a field day on winter vegetable production with 26 households of vegetable growers at Dolungang, Dekidling geog. It was organised mainly to see the status and performance of vegetable production and high-density polyethylene pipe irrigation constructed last year with support from the Horticulture Division. The beneficiaries contributed labour works for 935 days to construct two reservoir water tanks and 3.5 km pipe lining.
The day was graced by the Hon’ble Dasho Dzongda as Chief Guest accompanied by Dasho Dranpon, Dasho Dzongrab Gom and Gelephu Dasho Drungpa. Gup and mangap from Dekidling and Jigmeling tshogpa were also present.
The field day was followed by the transect walk covering the main vegetable production field across the Dolungang community. Later, participants discussed on the status and scope of vegetable production and marketing. The suggestions made by the guests were to enhance more vegetable production and continue to increase household income. The concern was expressed on how vegetable marketing can be improved.
