March 15, Thimphu: An EU delegation led by Ms. Paola Pamploni, Deputy Managing Director (MD), AISAPAC-European External Action Services called on the Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo, Yeshey Penjor. The meeting was also attended by the Agriculture Secretary, Dasho Rinzin Dorji.
Welcoming the delegation, Lyonpo highlighted that EU is the important development partner for Bhutan and to the Ministry. He expressed his acknowledgement for EU’s instrumental contributions in enhancing rural livelihoods, poverty reduction, sustainable natural resources management and climate actions.
Lyonpo shared the Ministry’s plan to focus on youth employment in the 12th five year plan (FYP) besides focusing on conservation efforts, rural-urban migration and poverty reduction among others. The Deputy MD appreciated that the Ministry’s 12th FYP is well aligned with EU priorities which includes rural development and sustainable environment to boost production, income and country’s economy.
The meeting also discussed issues related to water, infrastructure, certification, human-wildlife conflict, value chain and market. The delegation suggested the exchange of experts visit to explore the relevant technologies as well as the possibility of additional collaboration in the identified areas.
The Ministry’s on-going EU projects include the EU-Technical Cooperation Project, Rural Development and Climate Change Response Programme and EU-ITC Trade Project focusing on the capacity building, climate change and poverty reduction respectively.
The delegation was in the country to attend the 14th Round table Meeting during which they also called on the Hon’ble Lyonchhoen, Dr. Lotay Tshering.
