28 May 2014, Samtse: To realise better livestock breed and to enhance diary production in the area, a new Artificial Insemination (AI) centre was formally launched at Dophuchen/Dorokha Geog. With this establishment, Samtse Dzongkhag has now 10 Artificial Insemination Centres. The new centre was initiated by the Dzongkhag Livestock Sector with technical supports from various stakeholders under the Department of Livestock. The key objective of introducing the AI Centre in the Drungkhag is to increase the dairy production through inseminating the desired and better breed semen to improve the cattle breed thereby strengthening the dairy farming activity to boost the income of the rural farmers.
Dasho Drungpa of Dophuchen Drungkhag was the Chief Guest during the inaugural ceremony and in his keynote address, he explicitly reminded the public to obtain maximum benefit out of this valuable facility to improve cattle breed which is inevitable part towards increasing dairy productivity. About 80 farmers from Dophuchen, Denchukha and Domtoe Geogs attended the gathering. The new AI centre is expected to benefit the three Geogs of Dophuchen, Denchukha and Dumtoe. A brief awareness on AI was also conducted emphasising time management while seeking the AI services. Dophuchen Geog is a RRCDP focussed area for dairy and poultry production. A cultural programme by ethnic groups of people of the area marked the day. The day concluded with Dophuchen Gup expressing his happiness of having successful investiture of the AI centre and is really optimistic of a brighter future in dairy development at Dophuchen Geog.
