Tsirang: Geared towards providing uninterrupted Artificial Insemination (AI) services to the general public under public-private partnership for cattle breed improvement and dairy development in the country, the early school leavers who are referred as “Community based AI Technician” (CAIT) attended AI training in Barshong from 9-30 April. The intervention directly complements the objective of the Department of Livestock to enhance employment and income generation opportunities in rural areas.
The training was aimed to mitigate acute shortage of AI technicians in potential dairy areas of Tsirang and Dagana Dzongkhags and to encourage better uptake of Progeny Testing Scheme in Barshong and Sergithang gewogs that was initiated by the National Dairy Research and Development Centre (NDRDC)-Yusipang in 2017.
The training resource persons included officials from the NDRDC, Regional Livestock Development Centre (RLDC)-Wangdue and Dzongkhag Livestock Sector. A total of 10 trainees selected by the communities in consultation with the local government officials and the Sector were trained.
The training concluded with awarding of certificates along with a set of portable AI equipment and accessories to all. Such arrangement is expected to encourage the new CAITs to start providing AI services back home immediately.
The NDRDC-Yusipang in collaboration with RLDC-Wangdue and Dzongkhag Livestock Sector conducted the training with fund from GEF/UNDP project.
