17 August 2015, Sarpang: The farmers of Gakidling community led by the GT members and the geog staffs under Gakidling geog inaugurated the completion of 4 km Electric Fencing by the Honourable chief guest, Dasho Dzongda accompanied by the Dasho Dzongrab Gom and RNR sector heads from dzongkhag administration.
The staffs led by the Chief Forest Officer from Divisional Forest Office, Sarpang also participated during the inauguration ceremony and presented the completion report of the Electric Fencing.
Sarpang Forest Division under the Department of Forestsand Park Services (DoFPS) executed the Electric Fencing works including technical assistance. The fund for the materials used for Electric Fence was supported by the Wildlife Conservation Division, DoFPS, Thimphu.
The construction work and the fencing pole was contributed by the members of 46 beneficiary households. It covers 142 acres of wetland and 166 acres of dry land. The electric fence from Gurung Khola to Bisty Bridge will help the communities to keep away the wild animals especially the elephants.
The community beneficiaries has also formulated by-laws to ensure the effectiveness of the fence hereafter.
In addition to this, Gakidling Gewog is also ongoing with 38kms Electric Fencing with the fund support from Rural Livelihood Project, Zhemgang. This will benefit 84 households covering 165 acres Dry land and 54 acres Wetland.
