January 12, Thimphu: Mr. Stefano Manservisi, Director General for International Cooperation and Development at the Europen Commission (DEVCO) calls on the Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo, Yeshey Penjor. Welcoming the delegation at the ministry, Lyonpo thanked EU for their contributions since 1984 which has been very instrumental in enhancing rural livelihoods, poverty reductions and climate change actions.
During the meeting, Lyonpo shared that in the past, the main challenges our people used to face was human wildlife conflict. The electric fencing support from EU has played as effective measures to face those challenges and resolve.
The Director General enquired about the links between youth employment and the RNR sector. To this, Lyonpo shared that educated youth can do mechanic farming and cooperate marketing. He added that if we could mechanise our agriculture farming system, educated youth can take part in it. With this, almost 50% of youth unemployment problem can be solved within RNR sector only.
The purpose of mission was to get a holistic picture of next Multi Indicative Annual Program (MIP 2021-2027) such as natural resource management, climate change and poverty. They also talked about the climate sensitive crop varieties, farm roads and, irrigation and drinking water.
