29 October 2015: Enroute to Mongar, Lyonpo launched the sheep restocking at Dechenpelrithang sheep farm at Bumthang. The farm was restocked with additional 246 native sheep taking the herd strength to 360. Such a measure, according to Lyonpo, is expected to not only revive sheep farming but also conserve the genetic resources, offering wider choice of genetic materials for effective breeding and selection, and preserve and enrich the associated culture and tradition.

Furthermore, Lyonpo said that the timing is very appropriate for such a revival, being the year of the Female Wood Sheep and the 60th Birth Anniversary of the 4th Druk Gyalpo.
