22 June, Trongsa: Following the pre-demonstration test of the Mitsubishi Mini Power Tiller MS88 by the Agriculture Machinery Centre (AMC) on 4 June 2015, a demonstration program was also conducted in Trongsa Dzongkhag from 15-16 June 2015.
A farmer who came to participate in the demonstration program said “Introducing such machines would ease the farm drudgery in remote places like ours where it is very difficult to find workers especially during paddy transplanting and harvesting season which is the main source of livelihood here. I feel that this machine is more useful in the high terraced land and narrow fields as the weight and size of this machine is comparatively less than other Power Tillers introduced earlier. Moreover, I was surprised to see that it can be easily handled and operated by women too”.
A total of 14 acres of land in Bji Trong, and Dangray village under Nubi Gewog was brought under field preparation with the demonstration program.
Similarly, farmers of Isua and Taktse village under Drakteng Gewong witnessed the demonstration of Paddy transplanting machine organised with the aim of introducing farm mechanisation in Trongsa Dzongkhag. A totals of 12 acres paddy field was transplanted under this demonstration initiative.
Meanwhile, farmers in Trongsa Dzongkhag requested AMC to retain one unit of Mini Tiller MS88 until their field preparations are complete while the Regional Agriculture Machinery Centre in Khangma has taken over one unit of the machine for the demonstration of farmers in the Eastern Dzongkhags.
