June 20 – 22, Thimphu: The Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority (BAFRA), MoAF, is organising a workshop on “Finalisation of Biosafety Rules and Regulations 2016” at Rochog Pel Hotel, Thimphu.
Around 40 participants comprising of Biosafety Technical Working Group and the Regulatory & Quarantine Officials of BAFRA are attending this three Day’s Consultation workshop.
The Biosafety Act of Bhutan was enacted in 2015 and it designates BAFRA as the National Competent Authority for the implementation and enforcement of the Act. BAFRA has readied a draft Biosafety Rules and Regulations which was initially drafted by Local Consultants and then further reviewed by technical team from BAFRA and the National Biosafety Technical Working Group.
This workshop has been organised with the objective to review and finalise the draft regulation by discussing it thoroughly at a larger forum comprised of both technical representatives from relevant agency/departments and field officials from BAFRA. The finalised regulation will be presented to the National Biosafety Board for endorsement.
