14 December, Mongar: The Hon’ble Lyonpo, Yeshey Dorji, Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (MoAF) inaugurated a community milk processing centre at Tsamang geog in Mongar.
Lyonpo speaking to the villagers highlighted the importance of providing good food to livestock for better production. He encouraged them to cultivate maize that can be given to livestock. He also stated the importance of egg and asked them to indulge in egg production to provide nutritional supplement for their children.
The centre is centrally located with 27 members from three villages. It was constructed with a fund support of Nu. 4, 60, 000/- from the National Dairy Development Centre, Yusipang.
According to the Dzongkhag Livestock Officer, Tenzin Dorji, the group collects 60 litres of milk daily in winter and 115 litres in summer. The milk is then processed into butter and cheese which are sold at very reasonable prices. As of now, the members have saved Nu. 6000/- for individual selling their milk products.
The geog extension agent added that the marketing of dairy products is not a problem as there are demands for local products.
Lyonpo accompanied by the MoAF Secretary, Dasho Tenzin Dhendup and other officials is currently on the eastern tour of Trashigang, Mongar and Lhuentse.
