May 23-31, Chukha and Tsirang: A cluster workshop/training for Vegetable Go To School (VeGoTs) Project was conducted for teachers from Chhukha, Samtse, Paro, Haa, Wangdue, Tsirang, Punakha, Dagana, Sarpang and Trongsa at the Darla Middle Secondary School in Chukha and Damphu Higher Secondary School in Tsirang.
The training was funded by the Asian Vegetable Research Development Centre based in Taiwan through SDC funding. The project is multidisciplinary in nature, a joint collaboration of three Ministries- Ministry of Agriculture and Forests led by the Council for RNR Research of Bhutan and Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health led by the Royal Institute of Health Sciences.
The workshop stressed the importance of agriculture education among the school youth for food and nutrition security through school agriculture activities. It covered activities carried out by the intervention and control schools, introduction to CRE (Collaborative Research Environment), promotional programme of VeGoTs, review of VeGoTs curriculum and learning objectives, nutrition intervention such as Moringa and Green Gram sprouts.
