  • 2nd Batch Nature Guide & Ecotourism Course in UWICE

    IMG_02111The second batch “Nature Guide & Ecotourism Course” started in UWICE from 1st March 2016 for two months. During the two-month course, trainees will be taught basics in identification of plantsmammalsbutterflies, and birds. They will be introduced to mist netting and banding of birds, besides the field excursion to gain hands-on experience in taxonomic skills. Twenty five applied but only fifteen participated for the course.

  • Training on Forest Silviculture and Management at UWICE

    24 November, Jakar: A two weeks training on Forest Silviculture and Management began on 24 November at the Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environment (UWICE). Twenty two participants from different territorial divisions under the Department of Forests and Park Services are attending the training.

  • Research Support for Students

    The Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environment (UWICE) has set aside a sum of Nu. 150,000.00 (One hundred fifty thousand) to support the short-term student research thesis to facilitate to partially fulfil their academic requirements. This support is available through the Jigme Singye Wangchuck Endowment Fund. The UWICE management will be able to support three best proposals of the students, each worth a grant of Nu. 50,000.00 (fifty thousand only).

    The grant application can be sent to sherub@uwice.gov.bt along with the proposal prior to the 31st October 2015. The proposal presentation by the students, selection and award of support to the three best proposals is scheduled on 15th November 2015.

  • Basic training on GPS and GIS commenced at UWICE

    1October 19, Thimphu: Two weeks training on Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geographical Information System (GIS) started at the Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environment (UWICE). Twenty six participants from different territorial divisions under the Forestry Department  are attending the training.

    The training will covered lectures, demonstration, hands-on exercise and field survey. Participants are expected to learn how to collect, integrate and interpret data using GIS software and GPS equipment.
