  • Bhutan to attend the Second International Conference on Nutrition

    Thimphu, 17 November 2014 – Bhutan will be attending the Second International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2) from 19 to 21 November 2014 at the FAO Headquarters in Rome. The goal of the ICN2 is to improve nutrition through national policies and effective international cooperation. The conference is jointly organized by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and World Health Organization (WHO) of the United Nations. The Bhutanese delegation, led by the Hon’ble Health Minister, Lyonpo Tandin Wangchuk, Ministry of Health, left for Rome on Monday morning.

    The ICN is a global initiative to understand and improve nutrition more holistically and for longer term interests. This second conference will review the progress of the Action Plan agreed by the governments in the first ICN in 1992. Lessons will be learnt and promising technologies scaled-up in the coming years. The ICN2 will also review relevant policies and institutions on agriculture, fisheries, health, trade, consumption and social protection to improve nutrition.
