This statistical release is based on data provided by the School Agriculture Programme (SAP) under the Department of Agriculture (DoA), MoAF. SAP is a joint initiative of the MoAF and MoE. It started with six pilot schools in the year 2000 and now it has expanded to 303 schools in the country. Schools having SAP engage in agricultural activities by students within the school campus with the objective to improve kids’ nutritional requirements and also to inculcate farming as an alternative livelihood option in later life. By far vegetable growing is the most common activity under SAP but others such as egg production, pig rearing and mushroom cultivation are also carried out in some of the SAP schools. The DoA organises regular trainings for SAP focal teachers at College of Natural Resources and Rural Development Training Centre.
