  • EU Delegation calls on Hon’ble Agriculture Minister

    A50X1223August 16, Thimphu: The out-going Head of Cooperation (HoC), Dr Johann Hesse for Bhutan, EU Delegation, New Delhi, India and new HoC for Bhutan, Mr. Jerome PONS based in Bangkok, Thailand made a courtesy call to the Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo, Yeshey Dorji.

    During the meeting, Lyonpo thanked Dr. Johann for his instrumental roles in enhancing relations between RGoB and particularly the Ministry and EU. He added that during his tenure as HoC, all the releases of tranches were received on time all because of the support of Dr. Johann and his colleagues in New Delhi. He also mentioned that the support provided by EU has been optimally and efficiently utilised by the Ministry for the intended purposes. Lyonpo extended his deepest gratitude to Dr Johann and wished him all the bests for his new place of work in Myanmar.

  • Third annual mushroom festival held

    A50X094715-16 August, Thimphu: The third annual mushroom festival was held in Geney geog. The opening of the event was graced by Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji along with senior officials. It was organised by community of Geney geog in collaboration with the National Mushroom Centre (NMC) and the Tourism Council of Bhutan. Currently Geney geog has some eighty members from five chiwogs.

    The festival showcased the different mushrooms for sale, traditional food stalls, local handicrafts, high altitude livestock products, farm tools and cultural programs by community and schools. The event was aimed to help preserve and promote the culture and tradition as well as to improve the livelihood of the community.

  • Tsirang Forest Division translocated two injured birds

    Forestry staffs of Mendrelgang Beat Office, who were on the official duty spotted an injured female peafowl (Pavo cristatus) on July 19 at Balawney village under Barshong geog. With the left leg broken and wound on her chest, she has been fed and taken care by the local residents. Balawney is two hour’s drive from Damphu town with three hours walk from the nearest motorable road. The care giver of the bird said that the injured bird was lying at the side of his paddy field.

  • Cattle breeding to be cheaper for Tephu farmers

    Untitled-1Pemagatshel: A much awaited dream of having a pure jersey bull of Tephu community under Nanong geog was fulfilled on July 15 when the government delivered them a ‘Norbu’ as villagers called it. It was a great moment for Tephu farmers as they received a bull with a khadar (religious scarf) ceremony.

    In the past, it was a nightmare for farmers to breed their cattle during heat. During the odd hours, they had to avoid the required bull services mainly due to labour shortages and long distance they had to travel. Further, their life was in stake as they had to travel through terrain and things used to get worst as the cow in heat is likely to mount the owner risking them to fall from the cliff.
