14 November 2017: From 9 to 11 November, 2017 at Greater Noida in Delhi, Bhutan participated in the 19th IFOAM Organic World Congress (OWC) led by the Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture and Forests who was invited as a speaker during the inauguration session.
In order to enhance the trout production through strengthened market system, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Department of Livestock and the Bhutan Livestock Development Corporation Ltd (BLDC) on November 8.
As per the MoU, the Trout Breeding Center (TBC) under National Research Center for Riverine & Lake Fisheries (NRCR&LF) in Haa will produce and supply 2 MT of trout every month to BLDC for marketing. This marks a big step towards achieving the Centre’s target of enhanced fish production as well as the BLDC’s goal of food self-sufficiency and self-reliance.
November 11, Thimphu: The Royal Government of Bhutan, World Wildlife Fund (WWF), donors and partners from around the world today announced their commitment to create a Nu. 2.8 Billion (USD $43 million) fund—the first of its kind in Asia—to permanently protect Bhutan’s network of protected areas.
This funding will be combined with annual contributions from the Royal Government of Bhutan, which will be contributed over a 14-year period, to support a new program called Bhutan for Life (BFL). The program will ensure that there is sustainable funding to properly manage Bhutan’s protected areas, which constitute over 51 percent of the country, the highest percentage of land designated as protected in Asia.
Tomorrow, 11th November 2017, is a National Holiday in the Kingdom of Bhutan to celebrate the 62nd Birth Anniversary of the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, His Majesty The King Jigme Singye Wangchuck. Thus to commemorate the Fourth King’s Birth Anniversary, the Day is also celebrated as Constitution Day, Gross National Happiness Day and Children’s Day. The Constitution of the Kingdom of Bhutan was adopted by the first democratically elected Parliament on July 18th 2008.
