  • Sanam Lyonpo visit Bjee flash flood sites

    2-4 October, Trongsa: The Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo is on a three day tour to visit the recently occurred flash flood sites at Bjeezam in Nubi gewog.

    On October 1, the flood washed away the old bridge Bjeezam along with almost 200 metres stretch of road, a shop and two huts affecting six households.

    A temporary bridge is constructed at Bji to resume travel. According to Lyonpo, a permanent bridge will be planned later after proper research and feasibility study.

  • Sanam Lyonpo meets the Australian Ambassador to Bhutan virtually

    17 September, Thimphu: The Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo, Yeshey Penjor met His Excellency, Mr. Barry O’Farrel, the Australian Ambassador to Bhutan today virtually. He was announced as Australia’s High Commissioner to India and Bhutan on 18 February 2020.

    Their Excellencies discussed possible areas of collaboration in the livestock and agriculture sectors, technical and vocational institutes, water technology and human resource development (HRD). Lyonpo also highlighted the Australian significant contribution in building Bhutanese capacity through scholarships and institutional linkages.

  • Signing of agreement between DoFPS and GBCL on implementation of plantation program

    16 September, Thimphu: The Agreement has been signed between the Department of Forests and Park Services (DoFPS) and the Green Bhutan Corporation Limited (GBCL).  The actual implementation of the plantation activities in the field has already been carried out by the GBCL since 2016.  In the last 4 years, GBCL has created a total of 1163 hectares of new plantation investing a fund of Nu. 81.46 million, 1173 hectares of old plantation maintenance with fund of Nu. 21.61 million.

    Though the GBCL has the mandate of carrying out plantation related activities in the country, in absence of the written terms and conditions, both the parties (DoFPS and GBCL) has been facing a number of inconveniences in the field.  Therefore, with the signing of the agreement, it is expected to fulfill and clarify the following objectives:

  • APRC Ministerial Level Meeting

    3-4 September, Thimphu: The virtual 35th Session of the of the FAO Regional Conference for Asia and the Pacific (APRC) is underway in Thimphu where around 96 delegates from FAO member nations are discussing the region’s present food security situation with a emphasis on COVID19 impacts on food systems.

    The conference was convened in two sessions with Senior Officers Meeting from 1-2 September followed by the Ministerial Session from 3-4 September.

  • Virtual 35th session of the FAO APRC kick starts

    1-4 September, Thimphu: Around 490 delegates from FAO member nations have gathered for a virtual  35th Session of the FAO Asia and Pacific Regional Conference (APRC) to discuss the region’s present food security situation with an emphasis on COVID19 implications on food systems.

    Experts say that the arrival of COVID19 has a great impact on agriculture and food systems in Asia and the Pacific, a region already beset by climate and weather-related challenges.
