  • Basic GPS and GIS operation training

    The Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environmental Research (UWICER) will be offering basic GPS and GIS training w.e.f. 11th to 16th June 2018 at Lamigoempa, Bumthang.

    As the training is aimed to provide basic skills on GIS and GPS operation, anyone with basic computer skills can apply for the training. Preferably, we encourage cross sectorial agencies, NGO and private sectors to avail the training opportunities.

    We will be able to accommodate a maximum of 30 participants for this training. The selected candidates will be notified through UWICER’s website and email or phone.

  • Annual Review Meeting Between Maejo University and MoAF

    Untitled-1Thimphu, 27 April, 2018– A Seven member delegation led by Dr. Chamnian Yosraj, President of Maejo University, Changmai, Thailand visited the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests from 24-27th April, 2018 to attend the annual review meeting for the Master’s and Short-term Advanced training implemented by the Ministry and Maejo University under the EU –Technical Cooperation Project in Support of RNR Sector funded by the European Union.

    The review meeting was chaired by His Excellency the Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Agriculture and Forests. His Excellency thanked Maejo University for implementing the training as per the plan and schedule. His Excellency also informed that opportunities should be taken by both Maejo University and the Ministry to further the existing collaboration between the two institutions.

  • Pollination Workshop underway at College of Natural Resources

    Presenting on fliesA two-day workshop (30th April – 1st May) on pollination is underway at College of Natural Resources (CNR), Lobeysa. Introduction of pollination and its research needs were discussed with the students, lecturers of College of Natural Resources and officials from the National Plant Protection Centre and the National Biodiversity Centre. Around 40 participants were introduced to the valuation of pollination and research needs in pollination by bees and hoverflies in forested and agricultural lands of Bhutan. Participants were also introduced to the field-based taxonomical research in the agricultural land around Lobeysa. The main aim of the workshop is to encourage and support Bhutanese in studying the pollinators in the context of changing climate. The workshop also aims to develop baseline on the pollination in Bhutan, and publish research papers and field guides, while enhancing the capacity of Bhutanese researchers. Few interested participants were identified to carry out research on pollination including the taxonomy of the pollinators such as bees and hoverflies.

    Resources persons from the Naturalis Biodiversity Center, Netherlands, Dr. Vincent Kalkman, Dr. John Smit and Dr. Theo Zeegers presented on the current status of pollination in Bhutan and future research projects on pollination. The workshop was organized by the National Biodiversity Centre (NBC) in collaboration with College of Natural Resources and is funded by Naturalis Biodiversity Center. This workshop is a part of on-going project on invertebrates between NBC, CNR, UWICER, Sherubtse College, NPPC, and the Naturalis.

  • 25 April 2018: Government Holiday- Zhabdrung Kuchoe

    Zhabdrung-Ngawang-NamgyelAll Government offices and schools in the Kingdom of Bhutan will be closed on Wednesday 25 April 2018 to observe the Death Anniversary of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel, the Unifier of Bhutan.

    Zhabdrung Kuchoe is observed on the tenth day of the third Bhutanese month. Zhabdrung Nawang Namgyel entered into meditation when he was 58 for 12 years at the Puna Dewai Chenpoi Phodrang in 1651.
