Samdrupjongkhar: The Samdrupjongkhar Dzonkhag Livestock Sector has introduced the making of silage bag as one of the winter fodder conservation technology to ensure fodder availability throughout the year, minimise cost, enrich crop residue and to make optimal use of green forage during summer.

The introduction of exotic grass like Guatemala (tripsecumlaxum) and Napier(Pennisetumpurpureum) in the Dzingkhag has been a success till date, due to being a perennial. It grows on their own after the harvest and need not required to be sown regularly, it ultimately reduces the work load.

27 September, Thimphu: An MoU was signed between the Export Inspection Council of India (EIC) and Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority (BAFRA)  to recognize the export inspection and certification system of EIC for Bhutan. Hereafter, certificates issued by EIC would recognized as a proof of certification as prescribed by BAFRA. However, random checks will be carried out to ensure continued compliance of products under the MoU.

23-26 September, Thimphu: Experts from fourteen out of the eighteen member countries of the Animal Production and Health Commission for Asia-Pacific (APHCA) met to discuss on the impact and intervention of zoonosis, food borne disease and anti-microbial resistance (AMR) in the Asia-Pacific region. This was the 37th session of APHCA meeting.

APHCA based at Thailand provides the platform for the members countries to share technical information on animal health services and coordinate the joint action of collaboration to tackle the same. It also help to liaison with the recruited international organisations such as Animal Health Organisation, World Health Organisation and Food and Agriculture Organisation that helps to enhance food production and alleviates animal health issues.

24-25 September, Thimphu: A Himalica program to enhance rural livelihoods and climate change adaptation will be soon implemented in an identified pilot area, Barshong.  It is one of the remotest geogs under Tsirang Dzongkhag with five chiwogs and 231 households where people mainly depend on orange and vegetables for cash income.

The program managed by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), Nepal would work to reduce poverty, enhance sustainable land and water management while also facilitating the equitable and well being of both women and men there.
