  • Dairy Kiosk Inaugurated at Changkhorlo

    A50X27349 February Thimphu. Hon’ble Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji inaugurated the Kiosk, a retail outlet for dairy products from dairy groups and associations instituted across the country. The outlet is aimed at providing assured market for producers and an access to quality product for the consumers. Kiosk will be operated by the Youth Business Cooperative on public private partnership modality.

    There are 153 functional dairy groups and associations which collectively produce around 30920 MT of fresh milk. With the subsidy support package for two unit dairy cows in 10th five year plan had stimulated domestic milk production growth by 8% per annum. Therefore, Department of Livestock intends to continue the momentum in the 11th FYP with major financial support services from BOIC.

  • Training Workshop on Protected Area Management Effectiveness

    UntitledWildlife Conservation Division, Department of the Forests and Park Services is currently conducting a three days training workshop on ‘Protected Areas Management Effectiveness’ at Lobesa. The workshop is facilitated by two international experts namely Dr. Nigel Dudley and Dr Sue Stolton, Research Equilibrium, UK, and attended by CFOs and Park Rangers from the project sites (WCNP, PNP, JSWNP, RMNP) and JDNP among others.

    The main objectives of the workshop are to firstly, to introduce management effectiveness (ME) assessment: best practices, tools, global targets and data collection, introduce how ME links to management standards and secondly to discuss how this workshop links into the ‘Bhutan for Life’ project,  thirdly to train participants in the use of the management effectiveness tracking tool (METT), discuss how to enhance the METT and the possibility of developing some Bhutan specific modules and finally to plan the long term institutionalization of ME in Bhutan.

  • Hon’ble Lyonpo inaugurated the sale of local rice

    A50X25759 February, Thimphu. As a part of agriculture commercialization in accordance with agreement between Food Corporation of Bhutan Limited (FCBL) and Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (MoAF), the sale of locally produced rice was launched today by Hon’ble Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji.

    FCBL has collected more than 285 metric tons of paddy from Sarpang Dzongkhag and Punakha/ Wangdue valley. The sale of Local Maap, Local kaap and improved varieties of this rice is available only through FCBL outlets. There are seven pilot dzongkhags; Thimphu, Paro, wangdue, phuentsholing, s/jongkhar, Mongar and Trashi gang were marketing of these rice will be focused.

  • 6th Annual Nomads’ Festival

    UntitledWangchuck Centennial National Park will be organising the 6th Annual Nomads’ Festival on 23-24 February 2015 at Thangbee ground in Chokhoer geog in Bumthang.

    The theme of the festival is “Promoting harmony for bio-cultural diversity”. The nomads’ festival will showcase the tradition and culture of the nomads including dairy products, handicrafts, weaves, and nomadic way of life. It will also have other major attractions like traditional games-sokum, pungdo, khuru and dances by the Nomads’ and local community besides hordes of traditional cuisines like Jagbuli, khuli, puta etc
