    Theme: “Bhutanese People and Wildlife to live in Harmony”

    Background on World Wildlife Day

    The 16th Conference of Parties (COP) on Convention of International Trade on Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) was held last year (3-14 March) in Bangkok, Thailand. As one of the resolutions (Resolution conference 16.1) from the COP 16th on CITES, Wildlife Day on 3rd March was endorsed. Further, on 20 December 2013, 68th United Nations General Assembly (UN GA) formalized 3rd of March as World Wildlife Day. In addition to which all member countries were encouraged to observe the day. The day is declared to celebrate and raise awareness of the world’s wild flora and fauna in view of its intrinsic value and contribution to the ecological, genetic, social, scientifc, educational, cultural, recreational, andaesthetic aspects of sustainable development and human well being.

  • WCP promotes alternative fuel for nomads

    WCP successfully conducted two days training on producing biomass fuel and use of biomass based cook stoves for 35 nomads from Chhokhor Geog (block), Central Range in close technical collaboration with Watershed Management Division, Department of Forests and Park Services. The training is part of the Asia High Mountains project funded by USAID and routed through WWF Project in WCP. The cook stoves procurement was done with financial support from Bhutan Trust Fund (BTF-EC) in FY 13.

  • Bhutan Biodiversity Portal hits 1000 Observation mark

    February 28, 2014: After little over two months of the launch of the Bhutan Biodiversity Portal on 17th December 2013, by Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji, Minister for Agriculture and Forests, the observations in the Bhutan Biodiversity Portal (www.biodiversity.bt ) has raced to 1000.

    The observations were contributed by biodiversity enthusiasts from all walks of life and showcase the country’s rich biodiversity as well as the enthusiasm and interest amongst Bhutanese and others in studying, cherishing and conserving it. Currently, there are more than 140 registered users from Bhutan as well as from outside the country, who share their passion, expertise and love for biodiversity on this portal.
