  • First National Organic Board meeting held

    22 July, Thimphu: The first National Organic Board meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Hon’ble Agriculture Secretary, Dasho Rinzin Dorji to discuss the implementation status of National Organic Flagship Programme (NOFP).

    NOFP is a cross sectoral program requiring strong alliance and coordination. It will operate within the broad framework of two tier modalities (i) The National Organic Board (NOB) (ii) The National Working Group (NWG). NOB is the highest decision making body for the organic flagship program.

  • Agreement signed in Tsirang to ensure drinking water

    22 July, Tsirang: The service providers, Thakhorling Community Forest Management Group and Khuchi Darachu Community Forest Management Group under Patsaling gewog and the service users, public residing in Damphu Municipal area under Kilkhorthang gewog signed the agreement for drinking water. Having water shortage in Tsirang, Pawkhola serves as one of the most reliable water sources for Damphu, Barshong, Mendrelgang and Patsaling, Kilkhorthang and Rangthangling gewogs. Pawkhola stream is located at around 18 km from Damphu towards Darachu.

    The service providers agreed to carryout conservation and watershed management activities like maintaining buffer of 100 m radius to ensure proper recharging of spring sources, plantation of native species to rehabilitate degraded watersheds, guarding the entire watershed area from illegal extractions of forest resources, clearing stream channels in Pawkhola and limiting livestock grazing in the watershed area. The service users will contribute minor financial support to compensate as a sense of ownership for protecting water source.

  • Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo meets TICA delegation

    Thimphu: The Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo,Yeshey Penjor meets four member delegation from the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) led by the Director General, Miss Pattarat  Hongtong on July 18.

    The meeting discussed the possible collaborations in terms of capacity building, infrastructure development, floriculture and timber products. The TICA delegation assured to extend its full support for improvement of Bhutanese livelihood and environment for sustainability.

  • BEFIT 2019 to catalyse CSI

    16-18 July, Thimphu: About 52 Cottage and Small Industries (CSI) entrepreneurs exhibited their products and services at the Bhutan Economic Forum for Innovative Transformation (BEFIT) 2019 held at the Royal Thimphu College. BEFIT served as a national forum to bring together a wide range of expertise for sharing the best practices and discuss innovative solutions and challenges to catalyse the CSI in Bhutan.

    With a theme, ‘Catalysing the Cottage and Small Industries Sector to drive Bhutan’s economic diversification’, BEFIT focused on the four thematic areas such as nurturing an entrepreneurial culture and developing entrepreneurial skills, furthering innovation and technology, enhancing market access and improving access to finance and mitigating risks.

  • National Training Workshop on Compilation and Validation of Supply Utilization Account (SUA)/Food Balance Sheet (FBS) of Bhutan

    16th July 2019: RNR Statistics Division, Directorate Services, Ministry of Agriculture and Forests in collaboration with FAO UN is organizing National Training Workshop on compilation and validation of Supply Utilization Account (SUA)/Food Balance Sheet (FBS) of Bhutan. The training is being conducted at Institute of Management Studies Limited, Serbithang, Thimphu, from 16th to 19th July 2019 as part of  FAO’s Regional Project  « Strengthening the capacity for monitoring Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture in the context of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2 and 12 ». The training aims to build capacity in Bhutan on the compilation as well as validation of SUA/FBS by providing in-depth technical training on revised FBS methodology and tool. Furthermore, the workshop is also important to raise awareness of the potential uses of the FBS and its relevance as a food security policy analysis tool, taking into consideration its link to some of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicators.
