    Warsaw, Poland, 20th November, 2013: Addressing the Plenary of the Conference of Parties to the UN Framework on Climate Change in Warsaw, Poland, Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture and Forests and Vice Chair of the National Environment Commission, urged the international community to demonstrate greater global solidarity to tackle the threat of climate change. “Our collective efforts must intensify if we are to avoid dangerous climate change for the most vulnerable, from the lowest lying islands and coastal areas to the high and fragile mountains.”

  • National Stakeholders Workshop on Implementation of Regional Action Plan for Improving Agricultural and Rural Statistics

    Jambayang Resort, Thimphu 19 November 2013: The Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (MoAF) with support from Food and Agricultural Organization for Asia-Pacific Region (FAORAP) and United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia-Pacific (UNESCAP) organized a half-day National Stakeholders Workshop on Initiation of the Regional Action Plan to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics in Bhutan on 19 November 2013 at Jambayang Resort.

    The Workshop was attended by about 25 officials representing major stakeholders both within and agencies outside the RNR sector. Mr. Dorji Dhradhul, the Director of Department of Agricultural Marketing and Cooperatives (DAMC) graced the opening ceremony, Mr. Phub Sangay, Chief Statistical Officer from National Statistical Bureau (NSB), served as the chair and Mr. Allan Nicholls, Regional Coordinator for Implementation of Regional Action Plan for improving Agricultural and Rural Statistics form FAORAP resourced the workshop.

  • MAGIP Supervision Mission

    The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) supervision mission is in the country for a 4-week joint supervision mission from 5 – 30 November 2013. An annual event, the upcoming supervision mission will particularly assess progress made since the last mission (Nov 2012) particularly following the recommendations of the mid-term review (MTR). The mission would also re-examine the proposal for extension of the project by 18 months as well as the concept note for a new project proposed by the Royal Government of Bhutan (RGoB) to IFAD. The mission would further review the post-MTR issues and activities that the project needs to address in order to achieve its development objectives. Finally, selected members of the mission would visit a sample of remote villages to examine and focus on component 1 activities.
