  • Phobjikha observes its first World Food Day Celebration

    116 October, Wangdue. With the hoisting of United Nations Flag alongside National Flag the 34th World Food Day celebration took off on the grounds of Phobjikha Middle Secondary School, Wangdue.

    The event was graced by Dasho Namgay Wangchuk, Director General of Council of RNR Research (CoRRB), Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (MoAF), Mr. Karma Yeshi, Director General of Department of Education (DoE), Ministry of Education (MoE), Mr. Chador Tenzin country representative of Food and Agriculture organization (FAO), Mr. Dungkar Drukpa representative of World Food programme (WFP), Dasho Dzongrab, other officials from the two ministries, teachers, students and enthusiastic parents and residents from nearby villages gathered to witness the event.

    30 September, 2014, Sarpang: As part of its initiatives towards conservation of pristine aquatic bio-diversity the National Centre for Aquaculture (NCA), Bhutan’s nucleus centre for development of Aquaculture in Bhutan, under the guidance of the Department of Livestock (DoL) has released 3527 numbers of Golden Mahaseer fingerlings few miles upstream of Rongchhu River at Tsachu under Sarpang Dzongkhag. This is the 2nd batch of Golden Mahaseer fingerlings.

  • Sanam Lyonpo attends CFS41

    1Rome, Italy, 14 October, 2014: The 41st Session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS41) organized by FAO, IFAD and WFP is currently underway at FAO, HQ in Rome, Italy. The Bhutanese delegation to CFS41 is led by the Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo. The CFS was established in 1974 as an intergovernmental body to serve as a forum in the United Nations System for review and follow-up of policies concerning world food security including production access to food.

    The objectives of the CFS41 are to coordinate a global approach to food security and to discuss/review the State of Food Insecurity in the World 2014 (SOFI), promote policy convergence by providing guidance around key food security and nutrition issues, strengthen linkages and encourage a two way dialogue between CFS and other food security and nutrition stakeholders at the global & regional levels and update on best practices and lessons learned when implementing food security and nutrition polices at country level

  • The second annual Mt. Jomolhari festival

    Participants8-9 October, Soe: The two days festive occasion, particularly for the residents of northern community living in close proximity to snow leopard habitat joined by tourist, government officials, officials from Bhutan Foundation, Snow Leopard Conservancy (SLC) and the public of Soe and Tshento gewogs celebrated the culture and tradition of the high land people thereby also educating the community on the importance of conservation of the endangered snow leopard and their age old traditions and customs.

    The second Mt. Jomolhari festival took place at Dangojang near Jomolhari base camp under Soe Park Range of Jigme Dorji National Park (JDNP). The festival is a community based initiative collaborated by JDNP and the Nature Recreation and Ecotourism Division (NRED) which was funded by the Bhutan Foundation.
