  • Consultative Stakeholder Meeting for Riverine Fishery Program

    118-19 June, 2014, Samdrupcholing Dungkhag: The meeting started with a brief introduction by the Dzongkhag Livestock Officer on the purpose of the gathering for the stakeholders’ consultative meeting. He highlighted that this meeting was timely and needed to resolve many issues before the project began. He informed the floor that before planning any programs that are directly related to community concern, it is of utmost importance to understand the consensus and overall views of the beneficiaries. He also shared the information on the mandates of the National Centre for Riverine and Lake Fishery (NCRL), Haa, and successful programs elsewhere in the Bhutan.

    Dasho Dungpa also expressed to the floor on the programs and its contribution to the communities. Dasho also informed that Dungkhag administration has written concern to the Geog EAs and Gups to carry out the feasibility study and do the necessary ground works to expedite the programs. But it failed to be carried out as instructed which was why there was delay in proposing and getting the programs started as per the plan.

    26 June, Thimphu: The Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority (BAFRA) is organizing a technical workshop for the food inspectors to discuss the proposed imported food program.The proposed program will identify the procedures for applying and issuing an import permit for food. It will also establish procedures for inspecting imported food at the border and for inspecting food importers against Good Importing Practices.

    In order to enhance maize productivity and contribute to food self sufficiency, the National Maize Program at RNR RDC Wengkhar, DoA MoAF explored the potentials of Hybrid Maize as a spring crop mainly as pre rice in fallow paddy fields. A total of five hybrid maize varieties were introduced from Pioneer Seeds, Hyderabad with supports of the Decentralized Rural Development Project, World Bank – Additional Financing, DoA MOAF (DRDP-WB/AF / Maize Research and Development).

    The Department of Livestock conducted a ten days training titled “Training on vaccination and deworming for poultry entrepreneurs” at Sampheling geog centre, Chukha (for Samtse & Chukha Dzongkhags, 2 – 11 June 2014) and at Damphu, Tsirang for Sarpang and Tsirang Dzongkhags (16 – 25 June 2014) for the poultry entrepreneurs. This training was conducted in collaboration with the Drug Regulatory Authority of Bhutan and implemented jointly by the National Centre for Animal Health and Regional Livestock Development Centres (Tsimasham and Wangdue).

  • Training on Approach to Clinical Examination in Veterinary Practice

    DSC06228A 10 days in-service training on “Approach to Clinical Examination in Veterinary Practice” for Eastern region is underway at Mongar w.e.f. 16-25th June 2014. The Refresher Course Training is organized by Regional Livestock Development Centre, Khangma and is being attended by 47 participants from the field working in Geog Centres and DVHs of Lhuntse, Mongar, TrashiYangtse, Trashigang, Pemagatshel and SamdrupJongkhar Dzongkhags.

    The training is aimed primarily at Field Extension Officers (para-veterinarians), working in Geog Centres and DVHs. The in-service training courses is designed to refresh participants’ knowledge and understanding of core principles in each discipline, as well as discuss any important recent advances.
