    This year, Merak and Sakteng geogs are experiencing unprecedented rainfall all these days. Almost every day it is raining cats and dog’s here. Every streams, rivers and gullies are over flown with rain water and debris. Villages look like a floating town, with water oozing out from every small openings and faults.

  • Training on Feed and Fodder underway

    30 July to 2 August 2014, Bumthang: A four days training on feed and fodder is under way at the National Centre for Animal Nutrition (NCAN). Thirty participants from Regional Livestock Development Centres (RLDC) of Kanglung, Tsimasham, Wangdue and Zhemgang and officials from NCAN and RNR-RDC Jakar are attending it. The training is being facilitated by five resource persons from the Department of Livestock Development, Thailand. During the training period, various topics related to animal nutrition including fodder development for enhancing animal production in the country will be covered.

  • Orientation Program Conducted for 7th Batch of Trainees at UWICE

    uwice131 July Bumthang: The seventh batch trainees will be starting their one year certificate course in Conservation, Environment and Forestry Studies from 1 August 2014 at the Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environment. The new batch consists of fifteen trainees including ten in-service from Natural Resources Development Corporation Limited (NRDCL) and five pre-service trainees. The 7th batch trainees attended the day-long orientation program at the Institute today.

    The Officiating Director and the faculty members of the Institute joined the orientation program to welcome them to the Institute. “The orientation program is conducted to ensure that trainees feel at home, become part of the Institute and most importantly, feel comfortable here” said the Dean of Training and Academic Affairs of the Institute.

  • Training of Trainers Workshop on Community Self Assessment for Conservation Project

    Participants (1)24-26th July 2014: A three-day Training of Trainers Workshop on Community Self Assessment for on-farm conservation project on Biodiversity Use and Conservation in Asia Program (BUCAP) Project is underway at Gelephu. The Project is supported through South East Asia Regional Initiatives for Community Empowerment (SEARICE), based in the Philippines. It focuses on the conservation, development and sustainable use of cereal diversity in the country.

    The workshop is attended by 15 project stakeholders from regional Renewable Natural Resources Research and Development Centres of Wengkhar, Bhur and Bajo, and Agriculture Extension Officials from the respective project sites of Drujeygang, Tarraythang, Samtse, Wangphu and Kengkhar. The workshop focuses on the use of Community Self Assessment (CSA) Tools to assess the impacts the project beneficiary/communities themselves.
