  • Delegation from DNPWPC, Thailand visits Bhutan

     

    Thai delegetes 2A seventeen member team from the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, (DNPWPC) led by their Director General, Dr. Nipon Chotibal was in the country from March 3-8 to study the forest management system and practices, particularly the protected area system management and Payment for Environmental Services (PES) in Bhutan.

    This kind of study tour from the DNPWPC is an indication of the special relationship that the two countries share and particularly between the Department of Forests and Park Services (DoFPS) and DNPWPC. The visit is aimed to strengthen the existing relationship and provide more opportunities for sharing experiences in protected areas, natural resources management and sustainable development particularly between DoFPS and DNPWPC. The DoFPS facilitated the delegation visit.

  • Peri-urban Mushroom Introduction in Mongar

    A joint initiative of Geog Agriculture Extension, Researchers and Farmers

    With farmers realising opportunities from mushroom cultivation, 27 farmers (20 Women and 7 Men) from 8 villages nearby Mongar town adopted Shitake Cultivation though a join initiative of Geog Agriculture Extension Office at Mongar, RDSC Khangma and Farmers. The geog extension coordinated and facilitated hands on training programs with Technical Assistance and equipments support from RDSC Khangma Mushroom Spawn Unit, RDC Wengkhar and farmers sharing cost for other materials, labour and collection of billets. A total of 4,330 billets have been inoculated recently.

  • Hon’ble Lyonpo meets the Ambassador-designate of Belgium to Bhutan

    March 6, Thimphu: His Excellency, Mr. Jan Luykx, the Ambassador-designate of Belgium to Bhutan called on Hon’ble Lyonpo, Yeshey Dorji.

    Their Excellencies shared the Ministry’s challenges in terms of labour shortage and marketing of agricultural products. On this, the Ministry’s initiative like introducing farm mechanisation and farmers outlet to solve the problems was shared. The meeting also agreed to look into the possible areas of collaboration in the future.

  • 2nd World Wildlife Day celebrated

    UntitledMarch 3, Trongsa: The 2nd World Wildlife Day was celebrated at Jangbi under Langthel geog with a theme in Bhutan ‘Partnering with Local Communities to Combat Wildlife Crime’ while the global theme is Wildlife Crime is serious: let’s get serious about wildlife crime’. The celebration was graced by Dasho Paljor J Dorji as the Guest of Honour and Dasho Norbu, Drangpon, Trongsa Dzongkhag as the Chief Guest.

    Also present at the occasion were the invited guests from WWF Bhutan Office, Tarayana, students and senior officials from the Department of Forest and Park Services and Dzongkhag. The occasion was attended by 200 invitees.
