  • Training on Bhutan Phenology Observation underway

    2February 2-4, Phuentsholing: A total of 30 participants comprising of school focal teachers and principals from 17 schools are attending the training on Bhutan Phenology Observation. The training is organised by the Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environment (UWICE), Bumthang as a part of the Himalayan Environmental Rhythms Observation and Evaluation Systems (HEROES) project.

    The training is conducted with an objective to build capacity for the focal teachers taking part in phenology project. It is also a platform for the participants and the project coordinator to present their progress, discuss and find the solutions for the challenges faced while implementing the project in schools. The training also serves as a common platform for sharing information on climate change and its impact among scientists, researchers, educationist and citizens.

  • Inauguration of Wildlife Clinic and Laboratory

    opening of wildlife clinic and lab by SecretaryJanuary 30, Thimphu: The Hon’ble Secretary, Dasho Tenzin Dhendup accompanied by the Director General of Department of Forests and Park Services, Mr. Chencho Norbu, inaugurated the first Wildlife Clinic and Laboratory at Taba. This unit will provide timely and reliable services to the injured wild animals.

    The unit consists of clinic and laboratory which will treat the injured and diseased wild animals. The laboratory will carry out research and experiment to avoid zoonotic diseases from spreading to humans while also treating the injured wild animals. The injured animals are kept and looked after in an enclosure. Currently, the centre is nursing a bear and a deer for their injuries.

    The hon’ble minister for agriculture and forests visited and met the local government leaders and RNR extension agents in lower Kheng and Sarpang. During the visit, the hon’ble minister emphasized the need to achieve the goal of food security. He highlighted the three prevalent issues of human wildlife conflict, farm labor shortage, and lack of access to market.
