  • Collared scops owl rescued in Tsirang

    IMG_5572On January 2, an employee with Tarayana Foundation, Namgay presently residing at Tsirangtoe geog had spotted a collared scops owl being chased by a group of dogs. Upon informed by him, the forestry staffs of Tsirangtoe Beat Office rushed to the site and brought the owl to the Beat Office for further treatment and management. According to Namgay, he tried to contribute in a small way to safeguard our rich biodiversity”.

    With the help of Livestock Extension Officer of Tsirangtoe, a physical examination was done. No injury was found on the owl. The owl has been feed with meat, cockroach, moths, grasshoppers and other insects. It will be kept under observation for few days. It will be relocated to the natural habitat after it is fully recovered.

  • Farm machineries tested at AMC

    1One of the mandates of the Agriculture Machinery Centre (AMC) is to ensure the country has safe and efficient farm machinery for farmers.

    The Agriculture Machinery Certification Section had tested 2 models of power tillers namely, Kubota and Yanmar as per the national standards endorsed at Bhutan Standard Bureau (BSB). The team had also tested oil expeller from Karma One Stop. The two models of reapers for harvesting of paddy from Sonam Dongphel and Farm Machinery Corporation Limited were also tested based on the Ministry endorsed standards which are under public review in BSB for national endorsement.

    Participants (1)December 27-29: A partnership-scoping and experience sharing meeting for joint research and capacity building for water resources management is underway at the President Hotel, Pune, India facilitated by our local partner, the Advanced Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (ACWADAM).

    This is part of the Himalayan University Consortium Seed grant “Enhancing Regional Cooperation for Capacity building and Research in areas of Water Resource Management within Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal (BBIN) Network’ led by the Centre for Water, Climate and Environmental Policy, Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environmental Research, Bhutan.

  • Maedtsho Dairy Farmers retrains Animal Husbandry Management Practices

     Lhuentse: Good management farming practices help a sustainable production and play an important role in the enhancement of rural livelihood. Considering this, in order to translate the real scientific dairy management practices in field level and reap maximum dairy production, the Dzongkhag Livestock Sector organised the training on animal husbandry management practices for 34 farmers (28 females & 6 males) from December 1-4.

    The training helped farmers to better understand the importance of clean milk production and types of milking techniques through sessions on milk, public health, scientific dairy management practices and winter fodder conservation technology. It was funded by CARLEP, Wengkhar
