    Director General, DoA sharing the implications of Land Degradation

    17 February, Thimphu: ‘Bhutan annually losses 29 Mt/Ha of fertile top soil to land degradation, and if not managed properly it will be a very serious threat in the future’, shared Mr. Tashi Wangdi, Department of Agriculture (DoA), Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (MoAF) to the members of the National Council of Bhutan during the Sensitization Workshop on Combating Land Degradation for the Parliamentarians of Bhutan. Although land is the most important natural capital, investment on sustainable land management practice has been carried out on a very small scale, and there is a need to develop an integrated national land use policy or a separate national Sustainable Land Management Policy.

  • Tiger Focal Person Training Completed Successfully

    The Department of Forests and Park Services is embarking on the nationwide tiger survey this year using the latest survey technique and technology of camera trapping. This is the first survey of its kind in the country which will be lead and executed fully by the Bhutanese nationals. The national tiger survey is initiated as part of the tiger range countries commitment including Bhutan in 2010 during St. Petersburg, Russia declaration to double the wild Tiger population in Asia by 2022.

    A four-day annual review and planning workshop (ARPW) for Market Access & Growth Intensification Project (MAGIP) and the European Union (EU) Global Climate Change Alliance (GCCA) Program under the Ministry of Agriculture & Forests (MoAF) is underway in Gelephu. The project area for MAGIP is Lhuentse, Mongar, Pema Gatshel, Samdrup Jongkhar, Trashigang and Trashi Yangtsi dzongkhags. Lhuentse, Mongar, Pema Gatshel and Zhemgang dzongkhags form the GCCA project sites.
