  • Tree Seed Conservation Techniques Workshop underway

    Untitled-1December 7, Thimphu: The five day workshop on the Tree Seed Conservation Techniques which began on 7th December is underway at the National Biodiversity Centre (NBC), Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, Serbithang.

    Some 20 participants from various agencies under Department of Forests and Park Services (DoFPS); Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park (JSWNP), Nature Recreation and Ecotourism Division (NRED) and Zhemgang Division, Tangsibjii Hydro Energy Limited, Mangde Chhu Hydro Project Authority, National Seed Centre and NBC are participating in the workshop organised by NBC with technical support from Millennium Seed Bank, Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew and funding support from Tangsibjii Hydro Energy Limited.

    December 4, 2015, Lobesa: Bhutan today has 28 White-bellied Heron (WBH) individuals thriving in several river basins, revealed latest population census conducted by Royal Society for Protection of Nature (RSPN) from 27 February to 3 March 2015. With just over 200 in the world, Bhutan has 14 percent of the world’s total WBH population.

  • World Bank Vice President calls on Hon’ble Lyonpo

    A50X1089December 4, Thimphu: The World Bank Vice President for South Asian Region, Ms. Annette Dixon called on the Hon’ble Agriculture Lyonpo, Yeshey Dorji.

    During the meeting, World Bank assistance in agriculture sector was discussed particularly related to climate change. Ms. Annette who was in the country for the first time praised Bhutan’s comprehensive and holistic approach of remaining carbon neural and it’s vision in developing the country’s economy. She shared that agriculture is an important area of engagement for World Bank.

  • Second international workshop to coordinate conservation of WBH held

    IMG_20151201_1458461-4 Dec, 2015, Lobesa: A four-day international workshop with the theme ‘fostering international co-operation for conservation of critically endangered White-bellied heron’ is being held at Lobesa to redefine and agree the White-bellied Heron (WBH) conservation strategy in the WBH range countries such as Bhutan, China, India and Myanmar.

    The workshop is aimed to review 2015’s activities and gain new information about WBH while also providing and sharing additional technical and background information to be integrated into WBH conservation strategies. The presentations on research, activities and new information were made by the international participants from range countries.
