  • DoFPS Launches Three Important Publications to Celebrate 108th National Day

    To commemorate the 108th National Day, the Department of Forests & Park Services (DoFPS), Ministry of Agriculture & Forests is launching following three publications.

    The first book on – Protected Areas of Bhutan – the book covers information on five National Parks, four Wildlife Sanctuaries, one Strict Nature Reserve and the Biological Corridors. The book provides an overview of Bhutan’s Protected Areas, species richness, cultural diversity and livelihoods of communities living in the protected areas; potential areas of eco-tourism and biological research and challenges faced by the park mangers and rangers in adopting higher standards of effective management.

  • Minutes of Discussion signed between the Department of Agriculture and JICA

    web 1December 16, Thimphu: The Minutes of Discussion on the preparatory survey for the project for improvement of machinery and equipment for construction of rural agricultural road (Phase 3) between the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japan and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (MoAF) was signed today in presence of the Hon’ble Agriculture Minister, Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji.

    The purpose of this mission is to discuss with the concerned officials of the Government of Bhutan on the Draft Preparatory Survey Report for preparing draft outline design for Japanese Grant aid Project. This mission is a follow up to the earlier mission in August and September 2015. The team had held series of discussions with the RGoB concerned official.

  • The SFS -Bhutan Program Research Symposium held

    20151214_104145[1]December 14, Thimphu: The School for Field Studies (SFS) -Bhutan Program Research Symposium was held yesterday in Thimphu at the Royal Thimphu College to present the findings of directed field research carried out by SFS students during their 3 month semester program period in Bhutan.

    21 undergraduate students from 19 different universities or colleges of the USA have been undertaking the semester course on ‘Himalayan Environment and Society in Transition’ at the Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environment (UWICE), Bumthang since September 2015. The students have carried out field research related to forests, biodiversity, and rural livelihoods under Choekhor and Tang geogs in Bumthang.

  • Declaration between EU and Bhutan on Climate Change signed in Paris

    IMG_1875 copy10th December 2015: Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji, Minister for Agricultre and Forests, Bhutan and Mr. Miguel Arias Canete, EU Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy signed the Declaration European Union – Kingdom of Bhutan Cooperation on Climate Change” today in L”e Bourget, Paris on the sidelines of the UNFCCC COP21.

    The Declaration takes cognizance of the need for a robust framework for transparency and accountability to enable effective processes for stocktaking as to whether Parties are collectively on track to achieve the long-term goal, and strengthening Parties’ emissions reduction targets.
