    18 to 19 May 2016, Bumthang: The consultative meeting was held to realign and overhaul feed and fodder development activities in the country. The meeting attended by officials from the four Regional Livestock Development Centers and the National Research Center for Animal Nutrition, Bumthang deliberated various issues and adopted resolutions keeping in mind the recommendations of recent OD exercise carried out. The key resolutions include development of specific terms of reference (ToR) pertaining to feed and fodder development activities including streamlining of reporting system for NRCAN and RLDCs and strengthening linkages among key stakeholders. The animal nutrition is one of the crucial components of livestock production and as such, sustainability of any livestock based enterprises in the country depends on availability of adequate feed and fodder resources. With clear redefining of roles and responsibilities of the main players, it is expected to improve coordination and take way forward to gear towards achieving feed and fodder self-sufficiency in the country to support sustainable livestock production in the years to come.

  • Mongar farmers take part in Climate Change quiz program

    DSC01645May 16, Mongar: Thirty-two farmers from 17 Geogs participated in a day-long quiz competition on the theme “Understanding the Basics of Climate Change” at RDC-Wengkhar.

    The program was aimed at creating awareness on the basic but useful information related to climate change (CC) which is now regarded as one of the major environmental problems globally. Therefore, it is important that people at the community level understand its importance and their role in saving the environment.

  • MoAF Website Ranked First Again

    May 17, Thimphu: The Ministry of Agriculture and Forests’ website retained its title as the Best Website  in the Third National Website Competition. The MoAF Website run by MoAF’s Information and Communication Services was ranked First last year too during the second round of competition.

    The websites were assessed on categories like usability and reliability, content and aesthetics, security and privacy, electronic and mail services, citizen participation, and features like subscription and email notification among others.

  • Artificial Insemination Centre at Dekiling

    Untitled-1May 10, Sarpang: Dekiling geog under Sarpang Dzongkhag launched an Artificial Insemination (AI) center on May 10 2016. In total, the Dzongkhag now has three AI centers. The AI center was inaugurated by Hon’ble Dasho Dzongdag. The event was attended by the officials from the dzongkhag, Gup, Mangmi, Tshogpas and the communities from five Chewogs.

    The AI centre was jointly constructed through the geog fund of Nu. 020 million with support of AI Canes and other accessories from the Dzongkhag Administration.

  • Vegetable Produces – Vendors Linkage Day

    Lyonpo with vegetable vendors and supply of 13 Geogs12 May, 2016, Punakha: With the onset of harvesting season for local vegetables, farmers are anxious about markets and price of their produce. Poor linkages between producers and vendors have hindered marketing of home grown vegetables to the domestic markets. To strengthen the linkages between produces and vendors an interaction and vegetable trading day was organised at Khuruthang FCB depot on 12 May, 2016. His Excellency the Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo and Director Generals of BAFRA & DoA and senior officials from the Ministry graced the event.

    The Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture and Forests, Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji, briefed the gathering about the importance of good linkage between producers and vendors. He highlighted that good relation and association among farmers and vendors will enhance marketing of local vegetables and reduce our dependence on imported vegetables.
