  • Scientific Pig Breeding and Management Training underway at Gelephu

    Untitled-1May 3-9, Gelephu: Fifteen participants including Piggery Focal Persons from RLDCs of Wangdue and Zhemgang are attending a week long training on ‘Scientific Pig Breeding and Management’ at the National Piggery Research Centre (NPiRC). The training is particularly focused on two potential Dzongkhags of Tsirang and Sarpang.

    Both theory and practical module of two-way learning process is being adopted. The training will cover the proposal writing, feasibility study and cost benefit analysis of the farm business in addition to overall farm management aspects.

  • Training on Plant Nursery Irrigation and Soil & Water Management

    The National Citrus Program, Department of Agriculture (DOA), organized a two-day training program on nursery irrigation management in Thimphu from 21-22 April 2016 with the financial support from the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and the EU RNR SSP. The training is being put together as part of the ongoing ACIAR Citrus Project “Adapting Integrated Crop Management Technologies to Commercial Citrus Enterprises in Bhutan and Australia”.

  • Second Nature Guide and Eco-tourism course completed at UWICE

    3March 3 – April 29, Bumthang: The second batch of “Nature Guiding & Ecotourism course” which began on 3rd March 2016 concluded on 29th April 2016 with the awarding of certificates at the institute. The certificate awarding ceremony was graced by Mr. Tshering Tempa, Officiating Director and attended by the faculty and other staff members.

    Officiating Director, on his keynote address, advised the graduates to make best use of the knowledge and skills they gained through this course in conserving Bhutan’s natural resources and in nature guiding & ecotourism.

  • Vermi-compost launched at Bimtar

    vlcsnap-2016-05-03-10h05m32s809April 27, Samtse: The Hon’ble Director General of Department of Agriculture, Mr. Nim Dorji and Offtg. Dasho Dzongda, Dzongrab Phuntsho Wangdi launched the Vermi-composting technology at Bimtar, Norbugang geog. The event showcased the process of composting organic waste. These vermi-compost technology was established on Sarad Gurung’s farm. It will act as a demonstration unit in the Dzongkhag. The program was initiated by ADAO Kinzang Chophel, Samtse  with the fund support for the his demonstration unit and its expansion from National Organic Programme (NOP) in 2015 -2016.

    It is noted that the biggest problem facing the global agriculture today is decline in food production, degeneration in native soil fertility and deterioration in environmental quality due to application of synthetic agro-chemicals like fertilisers and pesticide.
