  • Commercial Agriculture and Resilient Livelihoods Enhancement Programme Launched

    DSCN0533Dasho Tenzin Dhendup, Hon’ble Secretary of the MoAF graced the official launch of the Commercial Agriculture and Resilient Livelihoods Enhancement Programme (CARLEP) on 7th March, 2016 at Wangchuk Hotel in Mongar. The launch was attended by Dasho Dzongdas of Pemagatshel and Trashiyangtse, Dasho Dzongrab, Mongar; officials from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and officials of six programme Dzongkhags. Representatives from the FCBL, GNH Commission, Ministry of Finance, Samdrup Jongkhar Initiative and technical departments of the Ministry were also present at the launch.

    CARLEP is a follow up programme to the current Market Access and Growth Intensification Project (MAGIP). It will build on the lessons and experiences from past IFAD funded projects and support the priorities of the government towards agricultural commercialization while emphasizing on the resilience to climate change. The goal of the programme is to sustainably increase smallholder producers’ incomes and reduce poverty through commercialization of production by programme households.

  • Tendrel Plantation held to Celebrate the Birth of His Royal Highness The Gyalsey

    A50X4860Thimphu: On March 6, at 10 am, 108,000 seedlings was planted in all 20 Dzongkhags and 205 geogs to celebrate the Birth of His Royal Highness (HRH) The Gyalsey. A seedling each was planted by every household in the country which was distributed by the Department of Forests and Park Services. Besides this, a ceremonial plantation of 2000 seedlings was also carried out by Dzongkhags which was organised by the Dzongkhag Forestry Sector and Dzongkhag Administration with prayers for long life and happiness of HRH The Gyalsey.

    In Thimphu, 5,108 seedlings were planted in 5 acres area at Kuenselphodrang by the volunteers, foresters, teachers, student, arm forces, elders and monks. More than 5000 turned out for the plantation which was a record for maximum participation at plantation. This indicates people’s love and dedication for the Royal Birth of The Gyalsey. The plantation of 108,000 seedlings is also a record for maximum tree seedlings planted in a day in Bhutan.

  • Taki – Sakura Cherry planted to commemorate 30th Anniversary

    4 March, 2016, Dechencholing: As part of the official event to mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between two countries, three ceremonial Taki – Sakura Cherry (Weeping Cherry/Waterfall Cherry) tree seedlings were planted at Floriculture and Amenity Landscaping Centre at Dechencholing yesterday. A total of 12 seedlings were donated by the people of Miharu town, Fukushima prefecture, Japan which the remaining seedlings were planted afterwards.
