  • Agriculture Curriculum for the Secondary Schools reviewed


    April 25-29, Paro: To create awareness on the self-employment opportunity in Agriculture sector as a long term vision and to supplement nutritious foods for the school children as an immediate objective, the Agriculture for Food Security (AgFS) curriculum has been introduced from classes IX to XII as an optional subject. It has been observed that AgFS is one of the most popular subjects and opted in class IX and X. Currently, there are 39 Secondary Schools implementing the AgFS subjects with about 2200 students.

    A team of subject specialists from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, Ministry of Education and Royal Education Council (REC) reviewed the AgFS contents at Drugyel during a weeklong workshop. It was organised by REC and Department of Agriculture with fund support from WFP. The consolidated curriculum will be handed over to the Ministry of Education for further directives.

  • Scientific Pig Breeding and Management Training underway at Gelephu

    Untitled-1May 3-9, Gelephu: Fifteen participants including Piggery Focal Persons from RLDCs of Wangdue and Zhemgang are attending a week long training on ‘Scientific Pig Breeding and Management’ at the National Piggery Research Centre (NPiRC). The training is particularly focused on two potential Dzongkhags of Tsirang and Sarpang.

    Both theory and practical module of two-way learning process is being adopted. The training will cover the proposal writing, feasibility study and cost benefit analysis of the farm business in addition to overall farm management aspects.

  • Training on Plant Nursery Irrigation and Soil & Water Management

    The National Citrus Program, Department of Agriculture (DOA), organized a two-day training program on nursery irrigation management in Thimphu from 21-22 April 2016 with the financial support from the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and the EU RNR SSP. The training is being put together as part of the ongoing ACIAR Citrus Project “Adapting Integrated Crop Management Technologies to Commercial Citrus Enterprises in Bhutan and Australia”.
