  • Press Release for cordyceps auction

    Cordyceps auction for year 2016 started since 14th July 2016 till 6th August 2016 for 7 dzongkhags namely Wangdue, Bumthang, Lhuntse, TrashiYangtse, Gasa, Paro and Thimphu covering 17 geogs.

    The total quantity declared at the auction sites was 458.422 kgs and the farmers of cordyceps collecting areas earned Nu. 151.43 million. The highest bid price was in Thimphu amounting to Nu. 1556000.00 (Fifteen Lakhs Fifty Six Thousand) followed by Nu.1550000.00(Fifteen Lakhs Fifty Thousand)in Bumthang. The lowest bid price was in Yangtse at Nu. 80,000.00 (Fighty Thousand) and 151000.00 (One Lakh Fifty One Thousand) in Wangdue dzongkhag respectively. The total quantity declared at the auction sites in 2015 was 271.002 kgs which is an increase in 2016 by 187.42 kgs.

  • New Secretary joins Ministry of Agriculture and Forests

    Dasho Rinzin DorjiAugust 17, Thimphu: The Hon’ble Dasho Rinzin Dorji is the new Secretary for the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests. His Majesty The King conferred Trashi Khadar to him along with other three newly appointed Secretaries yesterday.

    Prior to his current appointment, Dasho has served as the Director General for the Construction Development Board, Ministry of Works and Human Settlement. Dasho started his career as an Accountant at the Department of Industry in 1984. He also served as a Trainee Officer and Administrative Officer at the Department of Geology and Mines. Following this, he has served as a Regional Director for Trade and Industry Office in Gelephu and as Deputy Secretary for Ministry of Economic Affairs. Further, he was one of the Directors for Anti-Corruption Commission between 2007-20014.

  • Second Annual Mushroom Festival

    A50X0191August 15-16, Thimphu: The second annual Mushroom Festival was held in Geney geog celebrating the Royal Birth of HRH The Gyalsey, Jigme Namgyal Wangchuk. It also celebrated the 30 years of diplomatic relationship between JICA and Bhutan whereby the community and students showcased different mushrooms for sale, food stalls and cultural programs. The event was further aimed to help preserve and promote the culture and tradition as well as to improve the livelihood of the community.

    The festival celebrated the importance of mushroom and in particular matsutake mushroom which played a huge role in the socio-economic development of the geog. Mushroom is the major source of cash income for the Geney farmers. Last year alone, matsutake sale bagged around 87million Ngultrum.

  • Research Coordination and Planning Workshop underway

    Participants1August 17-19, Haa: The first consultative workshop on Research and Extension coordination and planning is underway at the National Research Center for Riverine and Lake Fisheries (NRCRLF).

    About 30 participants including researchers and technical experts from the Research and Extension Division (RED), Livestock Commodity Centres and Central Farms, NCAH, NRCDAN and RLDCs under Department of Livestock are attending the workshop.
