  • Cattle breeding to be cheaper for Tephu farmers

    Untitled-1Pemagatshel: A much awaited dream of having a pure jersey bull of Tephu community under Nanong geog was fulfilled on July 15 when the government delivered them a ‘Norbu’ as villagers called it. It was a great moment for Tephu farmers as they received a bull with a khadar (religious scarf) ceremony.

    In the past, it was a nightmare for farmers to breed their cattle during heat. During the odd hours, they had to avoid the required bull services mainly due to labour shortages and long distance they had to travel. Further, their life was in stake as they had to travel through terrain and things used to get worst as the cow in heat is likely to mount the owner risking them to fall from the cliff.

  • Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo visits UWICER

    DSC_2300August 11, Bumthang: The Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji visited the Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environmental Research (UWICER) and met with the Director and faculty members of the Institute.

    Lyonpo encouraged the researchers at the Institute to write more research proposals and get funds from outside. He handed over the Rangers’ Day cup to all the staff. He also met and interacted with the trainees of the certificate course in Conservation, Environment and Forestry Studies (CEFS).

  • Sanam Lyonpo joins mass cleaning campaign in Bumthang

    A50X0650August 9, Bumthang: Last year on December 9, to commemorate the 10 years of glorious reign of His Majesty The King, the noble initiative of nation-wide cleaning campaign was carried out. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forests took towards perpetuity to continue it every 9th of the month led by the Department of Forests and Park Services (DoFPS). Cleaning campaign along with awareness programs are conducted in respective areas by various offices under DoFPS to sensitise the general public on the importance of waste management and mobilise the community towards achieving the goal of clean Bhutan.

    Coinciding with the Dzongkhang tour, the Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo and senior officials from the Ministry joined the cleaning campaign. Prior to the campaign, Lyonpo in his speech to the local residents emphasised to strive making Bumthang an exemplary Dzongkhag with its cleanliness and eventually towards cleaner and greener Bhutan.

  • Cleaning campaign held at Dechenphu

    DSC05078August 9, Thimphu: More than 500 volunteers from Kawang geog, RBG, MoAF and Thimphu Thromde carried out a cleaning campaign in and around Dechenphu Monastery. The team collected around three truckloads of waste such as bottles and plastics. The campaign was a part of the monthly program of the Department of Forest and Park Services. Similar program was also held across the country including in Khasarapchu, Lampelri, Tsirang and Bumthang.

  • Sanam Lyonpo meets extension staff and farmers in Bumthang

    Chumi7-8 August, Bumthang: The Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo and senior officials from the Ministry met with the extension staff and people of Chhoekhor, Tang and Chumey geogs. They discussed the ongoing agricultural activities and their challenges.

    Many farmers shared the case of frequent human wildlife conflict and requested the Ministry for electric fencing. The electric fencing program was started two years back and today it has gained popularity among farmers. It helps farmers to protect their crops from wild intruders without having to guard by themselves.
