  • Picture Story: Awarding of Certificate to the Most Valued Employees of the Year 2016

    The Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji awarded a Certificate of Recognition each to the 5 officials who were recently selected as the “Most Valued Employees of the Year 2016.” The Ministry of Agriculture & Forests is the first agency to initiate such an employee recognition programme and this will be an annual event henceforth. The awardees seen above with Hon’ble Lyonpo, Offtg. Secretary, DoA Director and Chief HRO.

  • The National Flower of Bhutan found to be a New Species!

    The National Flower of Bhutan commonly known as Blue Poppy and scientifically known as Meconopsis grandis subsp. orientalis has been upgraded to a species rank with a distinctly Bhutanese name Meconopsis gakyidiana T. Yoshida, R. Yangzom & D.G. Long, inspired by the developmental philosophy of Gross National Happiness, published in Sibbaldia– The Journal of Botanic Garden Horticulture No. 14 (December 2016, https://journals.rbge.org.uk/index.php/rbgesib/article/view/193).

  • 12 FYP Consultation for MoAF with the Local Government

    Secretary126 March, Thimphu: The Ministry of Agriculture and Forests has completed formulation of its draft Key Result Areas and Key Performance Indicators for the 12 Five Year Plan and the consultation processes with the Local Governments going on full swing.

    Led by Dasho Rinzin Dorji, Hon’ble Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, the 12 FYP consultation with the Local Governments are taking place in full swing starting 20 March through 27 March 2017. The consultation meeting will end with the Trashigang cluster for six eastern Dzongkhags on 27 March in Trashigang. The consultations are undertaken to synchronise the Ministerial Plans with the Local Government Plans as the Local Governments will be responsible for the implementation of the major chunk of the agricultural plans and programs. Besides discussion on 12 FYP AKRAs, KPIs and targets, the consultation also provide a platform to share and discuss common issues and wherever possible mutually agreed solutions.

  • The Dragonfly named in Honour of The Gyalsey

    Screen Shot 2017-03-24 at 1.37.28 PM copyScientists of Sherubtse College, Kanglung, National Biodiversity Centre (NBC) and the Dutch Naturalis Biodiversity Centre have named a new species of dragonfly in honour of The Crown Prince of Bhutan, The Gyalsey, Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck as a symbol of appreciation and gratitude for the extraordinary leadership of Bhutan in biodiversity and environmental conservation.

    Honouring His Royal Highness The Crown Prince of Bhutan, the dragonfly Megalestes gyalsey (Odonata: Synlestidae). Megalestes gyalsey spec. nov. is described from a single male from Trongsa District in Bhutan. The species was discovered during field work conducted in 2015 for the Bhutan invertebrate biodiversity project. The species is named in honour of His Royal Highness The Crown Prince Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck, The Gyalsey of Bhutan, on the occasion of his First Birthday. This project is coordinated by the National Biodiversity Centre, Serbithang with collaboration with the Naturalis Biodiversity Centre, The Netherlands, Sherubtse College, College of Natural Resources, UWICE and National Plant Protection Centre. The project focuses on understudied biodiversity groups.
