  • Protected Area Management Planning Training Workshop at PNP

    PNP_mgt planning_group picAugust 17-19: Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environmental Research (UWICER) conducted three days training workshop on Protected Area (PA) management planning at Phrumsengla National Park (PNP). Twelve park officials from Ura Park Head Office, Western Park Range (Ura, Bumthang), Central Park Range (Lingmethang, Mongar) and Eastern Park Range (Phawan, Lhuntse) attended it.

    The training introduced the park officials to the international standards of good management planning cycle, steps of sound management planning and requirements for successful preparation and implementation of management plans. It is the first of its kind to be conducted for PNP park officials by UWICER. The officials expressed this training workshop as one of its first kind that they are attending in their service tenure under PAs.

  • DoL signs APA with its Field Offices

    A50X1320August 18, Thimphu: In order to establish clarity about annual priorities, provide an objective and fair basis for evaluating the overall performance, the Department of Livestock (DoL) signed the annual performance agreements (APA) with the head of its field offices. The signing was graced by the Hon’ble Agriculture Secretary along with the Division Chiefs, Program Directors, Regional Mangers, Managers and other senior officials.

    With the signing, the Department have ensure to work towards achieving the self-reliance in livestock products, promote breed improvement, enhance livestock service delivery, reduce import of livestock products and promote green livestock farming among many others.

  • First National Biosafety Board Meeting held

    NBB PictureAugust 17, Thimphu: The Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority (BAFRA) organised the first National Biosafety Board Meeting under the chairmanship of the Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo, Yeshey Dorji.

    The board members are the heads from the Department of Public Health, Department of Trade, Department of Revenue and Customs, Bureau of Law and Order, Department of Agriculture, Department of Livestock, Department of Forest and Park Services, National Biodiversity Centre and BAFRA. The Board also has a high-level representative from the National Environment Commission and Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

  • Lhuentse inaugurates Kurichu Capture Fishery

    Untitled-1August 17, Lhuentse: A Kurichu Capture Fishery (KCF) covering 13.5 km was inaugurated in Lhuentse and handed over to the community of Gangzur, Lingabi, Magar and Nimshong villages.

    The inaugural ceremony was graced by Dasho Dzongdag, Jambay Wangchuk; sector heads and forestry officials. In his speech, Dasho highlighted the importance of establishing a capture fishery program and handing over it to the community.

  • Berti Smoke fish comes with unique burnt aroma

    Untitled-1August 15-17, Zhemgang: Smoked fish, one of the oldest forms of preserved food is enjoying new popularity in Zhemgang as the special ingredients are added to increase deliciousness. Smoking fish in Berti was started in 2015 as a trial in traditional way to preserve the surplus harvest of Roudong fish pond with technical support from the Regional Livestock Development Centre (RLDC) Zhemgang and Dzongkhag Livestock Sector (DLS).

    While marketing for product, cured fish with smoking has won the consumer taste and there are plentiful demand from the hoteliers and individuals. So to meet demand and inspire farmers in fish farming, DLS supported the construction of smoke house with mechanised smoking chamber for Berti Fishery Community (BFC) to smoke fish in large scale.
