  • Bhutan celebrates World Ranger Day for the first time

    A50X894931 July- 2 August, Thimphu: The World Ranger Day for the first time in Bhutan was celebrated as a tribute to recognise the role that the rangers play in the conservation of Bhutan’s natural heritage and public service delivery. The event also celebrated the membership of its Society of Bhutanese Foresters to the International Rangers Federation (IRF).

    The IRF, set up in 1992 provides a forum for rangers from around the world to share their successes and failures in protecting the world’s heritage and to promote information and technology transfer.

  • Mass Napier Plantation carried out at Jaray geog

    Untitled-1Lhuentse: Around 29,000 Napier grass cutting slips were planted on 8 acres of maize field at Jaray geog on 14-15 June 2017 benefiting 20 households.

    The program was initiated to create awareness among farmers on fodder plantation to make available cattle feed resources through sustainable land management practices. Napier plantation not only facilitates cattle feed for better production and reduces pressure for forest, but is also useful for soil conservation and maintaining soil fertility under sloppy landscapes.

  • Khadar Awarded to Civil Servants for July 2017 Promotion

    HE Lyonpo with promotion recipantsAs a token of appreciation and in recognition of their dedicated services, the Ministry of Agriculture & Forests offered Trashi Khadar to the Civil Servants who have been promoted to next higher position level in July 2017. While the Ministry offered Khadhar to civil servants based in Thimphu, similar event have been taken place at the field offices within their respective agencies to use the occasion to rededicate the loyalty and service from the civil servants to the Tsawa Sum.

    In total, 225 civil servants under the RNR sector have been granted promotion for July 2017. The promotion consists of Specialist, Meritorious, Open competition and Broad Banded categories.

  • Joint Global Tiger Day Press Release from the Department of Forests and Parks Services, MoAF Bhutan and WWF

    _MG_5621This is also the first time that a high-resolution image of the magnificent cat has been captured at a high altitude of 11,733 ft in Bhutan.

    Commissioned with support from WWF, it took photojournalist Emmanuel Rondeau and three Bhutanese park officials from DoFPS about 8 weeks and 8 camera traps for the mission that began in March this year. Bhutan’s national tiger survey in 2014-2015 confirmed the presence of tigers in several areas of Bhutan for the first time – and found that tigers were using wildlife corridors to move between parks.
